If you are rather…« Shabby Chic » … you will enjoy the first pictures of my next workshop - the « Shabby Chic » antique dealer’s conservatory-boutique - which starts in Octobre. The scene is almost finished. All I need to do now are the plants : ivy, withered hydrangea, plants on a trellis surrounding the conservatory-shop and its small garden - conservatory in which the antique dealer displays his numerous findings. I am also working on a nice piece of furniture which will contain bits and pieces : papers, fabrics, old tiles etc. I still need a few more hours of meticulous but pleasant work to finish it … (to be continued).

Dedans comme dehors, ce je-ne-sais-quoi qui fait le style "Shabby-Chic"
se décline dans toutes les matières...

This « certain something » typical of the « shabby chic » style can be found in every object not only inside the consevatory but also outside.

Chairs, flower pots and garden fences, are all objects which have withstood the test of time…

Romantic and charming objects to decorate a nice cosy house…

But if you are more of the « Country style »

…Then here are my first creations for the « Country » workshop starting in October. The small typical American barn « The Little Red Barn » transformed into a boutique will bring you a few surprises : quilts, furniture and everyday-life objects of charm…. And will be one more opportunity to try new techniques in the field of miniatures… I have an affinity with this particular style and I have much fun in collecting all the elements which will help us remember that autumn will be there soon…(to be continued)

Here are some of the objects you will find in « The Little Red Barn ».

This is the small scale copy – from picture – of a piece of furniture discovered on an American website specializing in selling « Country style » furniture. I succeeded in reproducing the exact original colour and patina of time… and now…. I’d like to buy the same full size !!!

MON ACTUALITE: Etes-vous plutôt "Shabby Chic" ou plutôt "Country"?

Are you more of « Shabby Chic » or « Country » ?

…or like me just a fan of both atmospheres? If so you’ll probably enjoy the
autumn-winter workshops at the atelier Blondie. In fact I am now working on
2 projects and I shall very soon be ready to put the pictures on the net.

The first project is the shop of an antique dealer specializing in « Shabby Chic »
and who presents his treasures in a small conservatory surrounded with a little garden.

Here come a few pictures «sources of inspiration ». You will feel the soft and bright atmosphere of the style.

The second project will be a small American barn transformed into a « boutique » selling « Country » style objects and furniture.

Here too come pictures « sources of inspiration ». They will help you become acquainted with this warm cosy style.

The number of people taking part in the workshops being limited it would be better for those who want to take a class to send me a mail. I shall in due time have the pleasure to send them a technical paper giving further information (price, equipment, dates, etc.)

Woodland Teddy Bears

This small house from a kit by Bob Willans was created in 2002 to house my collection of mini teddy bears which I bought year after year from specialized cratsmen.

Every time I visited or exhibited at a miniature fair I used to « go hunting » for bear… a very pacific hunting I must say as it only consisted in adding some nice new plantigrades to my collection.

As I was not the only one to have a soft spot for those adorable teddies I suggested a workshop to my students and several of them are now the proud owners of a little house full of bears.

As bears live in the forest I created for the shop furniture and decoration with a forest look. ...Hence the name « Woodland Teddy Bears ».

As I had used a lot of bears for the shop but still had a lot left, I decided to create upstairs a small workshop where teddy bears were produced.
There we can also find in a rather « country » atmosphere wooden rocking horses or horses with wheels, an English « Golly » and a rather funny little American « Raggedy Ann ».
There is a « sewing » corner and books about teddy bears.
On a small shelf I displayed my china teapots.
My teddy bears come from England, Sweden, Holland, France and the USA.
Some of my bears were handmade from American kits by Kristin and others are the result of her own production.
My mother and I as well as some other miniaturists had the great pleasure thanks to Kristin to create their own mini bear.
One needed good eyes, a lot of patience and thoroughness to sew them but at the end of the class we were proud of holding in our hands our own little teddy bear.

Of course my preference goes to bears created by artists, unique hand-stitched pieces, but I also bought minute teddies (max. 2 cm high) made from pipe-cleaners and produced in limited series and numbered.

I also collected wooden, resin or metal bears. I only selected the best quality bears such as those by Peter Fagan created from his private collection.

In front of the shop, bears are posing for future generations…

I produced the small books and my mother the cross-stitchings.

The façade is decorated with « magnets » bought in England. They perfectly define the sign of the shop.

One can guess in the workshop behind the window the figure of a wooden Halloween teddy from the USA.

Two worn-out objects as I like them...

You will discover plenty of other bears in the « Carnet photos ».

Cooking in the Beach Hut

Fully « homemade » the camping stove in the Summer house reminds me of my camping holidays as a child. My mother performed miracles in getting us nice suppers ready on her
« Camping Gaz ».

"Made from scratch" comme disent nos voisins d'outre-Atlantique !

« Made from scratch » as our neighbours from across the Atlantic would say.

I want the same...in miniature!

One sometimes « melts » for some small objects just because they are the exact replicas of objets we particularly like. Then one says to oneself : « I want the same… in small !». The coming pictures illustrate what I have just said.

Here is a pretty pumpkin-shaped tureen displayed on a matching plate.
I love it and I was delighted to find its small scale version at Véronique Cornish’s.

A long time ago, I found a teapot in the form of a cottage in a second-hand market in Brussels. Last winter I discovered the matching sugar pot in an antique shop in Scotland. What is now missing is the milk pot…What I bought from Véronique Cornish is a complete tea-set in miniature of course.

The mini teapot on top of its « big sister ».

The large basket comes from a small shop in Luxembourg and the very small one was bought from Catherine Bigot-Duverne, miniaturist in Paris.

I don’t know the name of this kitchen utensil used to make stiffly beaten egg whites but the big one belonged to my grandmother and I discovered the small one in an American catalogue for miniaturists.

Adorable teapot bought in Honfleur. I’m looking for a craftsman who could make it in small...
