I love snow, mountains, firtrees … and …. chalets!
As I haven’t had a chance of having a winter holiday in the mountains for a long time I found a bit of comfort in creating this little chalet of my dreams…
I selected an English kit which was a good starting point for my project.
As a matter of fact, I only kept the "walls" and the large French doors of the façade.
I transformed all the rest to fit my idea of a warm sweet nest in the mountains!!!
I fully covered the MDF structure with larchwood boards, inside and outside.
The tiles are in cedarwood and I antiqued them so that they would look more realistic.
Inside the house, I added partition walls in order to get more interesting volumes.
I created an open-fire, main source of heat and true heart of the chalet. In order to create a cosy "mountain"atmosphere, I looked at pictures in books about chalets and in the absolute must: the "Maisons Côté Est" magazine.
I created furniture in light-coloured wood which exactly fitted the chalet.
They are copies of existing furniture and some are typical from the Alps – such as the so called "Shepherd’s cabinet", the "eart-shaped" chair or the settee in the bedroom.
I neither wanted to make a museum-like decor nor a reproduction of an old chalet but a chalet of today which combines comfort and simplicity, a chalet furnished and decorated with elements I love, elements which perfectly fit this kind of building: light wood, natural elements, authentic objects, useful and beautiful.
How nice it would be if as if by magic I could be reduced to a 1:12 scale and spend all winter long in this cosy chalet!
After a day of skiing, it is so pleasant to have a plain dinner - bread, cheese and wine - by the fireside and then, exhausted, get under the quilt in a large bed… How fantastic!!!

sometimes I must move from here, this cottage is absolutely the most beautiful I've ever seen in miniature! and since it is a great inspiration to me, (I too am building a mountain cabin!) I ask politely if in future I can post on my blog some of your photos to show others how good you are, and how many details I hope I can copy for my dollhouse!
